Dell Latitude E4300
Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist of Dell Laptop Battery First post by: www.laptops-battery-online.com
The 13-inch Dell Latitude E4300 is a compelling option for highly mobile business users, but its performance and long battery life come at a premium; the MSRP of our configuration (which included an extended battery slice and a solid state drive) was an exorbitant $2,794. However, if you've got the budget, few systems have this combination of portability, endurance, and power.
Design
The E4300's polycarbonate and aluminum chassis features a tastefully minimalist design, and is 1.3 inches at its thickest. Our unit was black, but unlike most business notebooks, it's also available in blue and red.
While the keys on the E4300 are not as springy as those on the Lenovo ThinkPad X200s, they're still quite decent. A pointing stick and a touchpad are both standard; the tiny touchpad offers little surface area. The pointing stick affords greater accuracy, but its rubber nub is indented in a way that makes it both coarse and slippery at the same time.
Visual and Audio
The 13.3-inch LED-backlit display (with a resolution of 1280 x 800) offered wonderfully bright, vibrant images and strong viewing angles. A sensor is supposed to adjust brightness subtly based on ambient light, but in several well-lit rooms it raised and lowered the screen's brightness every few seconds, even though we sat still and the overhead lights remained constant. In a darker room, the sensor adjusted itself only once, but it was still less useful than changing the brightness manually.
Though it's a business system, the E4300 had better sound quality than many consumer notebooks; audio was loud, clear, and free from distortion.
Performance
You can configure the E4300 with Windows XP, which is how our review unit arrived. In the older PCMark05 benchmark, the 2.4-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU scored a strong 5,787. Its integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics chip returned a good score of 2,210 in 3DMark03, while scoring a slightly below-average 775 on the more-demanding 3DMark06 test.
The lightning-fast 64GB Samsung SSD booted Windows XP in a remarkable 36 seconds and managed a transfer rate of 31.4 MBps, nearly double the category average for ultraportables.
Wi-Fi
The Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11a/g/n card transferred data at above-average rates of 19.2 Mbps and 16.9 Mbps from 15 and 50 feet, respectively. Integrated mobile broadband cards that work with AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon Wireless are also available.
Battery Life
With its default six-cell battery such as Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Battery, the E4300 lasted 5 hours and 39 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test. With the additional battery slice, that time jumped to a lengthy 10:59—but the $199 battery slice makes the machine 2 inches thick and 5.2 pounds. The E4300 was still easy to carry with the slice attached but less pleasant to use on one's lap.
Extra Features
A secondary power button (next to the main one) launches the Dell Latitude On feature when you don't need to load the entire Windows OS. Unfortunately, the version installed on this E4300 was so limited that we could view only a calendar, contact list, and recent e-mails imported from Microsoft Outlook.
In addition to optional fingerprint and Smart Card readers, the E4300 comes with Embassy Security Center, which provides password management for Windows and preboot logins, security management, and TPM management. Our unit also came with an Intel Active Management Technology application that allows a business' IT department to manage the E4300 remotely online.
The Final Word
Compared to the similarly lightweight ThinkPad X200s we tested for this roundup, the E4300 offers a much faster processor and better graphics with comparable battery life. However, the X200s is smaller, lighter, and a little more pleasant to use. If you can deal with its extra heft and somewhat mushy keyboard, the E4300 delivers an industry-leading combination of endurance and processing power.
