Choosing a Shooting Stick

A shooting stick provides shooters and hunters a place to rest their gun and relieve strain while staying in a fixed position for extended periods of time and most importantly they provide stability for increased accuracy. Hunting sticks are ideal for outdoor sporting good shooter shooting 100 to 250 yards or when it's just too far to shoot unsupported. Shooting sticks are available by a wide variety of manufactures like Allen, Vanguard, and Gorilla. With a few different kinds of shooting sticks like monopod, bipod, and tripod picking which one works best for your hunting experience is a difficult task.

Monopod Hunting Sticks

Monopod sticks are great for the hunter on the go. If you are hunting by yourself in terrain that requires lots of moving and repositioning then getting a hunting stick that can be moved are easily is important. It is also important to consider the weight of your rifle stick when purchasing since heavier sticks can be cumbersome to carry around. A shooting stick made out of light weight materials like carbon fiber will be the lightest hunting stick you can buy but they also are more expensive. The more popular option in monopod shooting sticks are ones made out of aluminum that are collapsible. With a variety of height choices the most common maximum height is 62". A great monopod shooting scope on a budget is the Gorilla 62" Deluxe Shooting Stick. The Gorilla hunting stick is height adjustable from 23" to the 62" max allowing for hunters all sizes to hunt comfortably.

Bipod Shooting Sticks

Bipod hunting sticks are designed to give hunters extra support over the monopod sticks for outdoor sporting good trips that don't require as much moving or longer shots. With the increased stability you'll be able to take more accurate shots but you will also loss some portability and gain a little more weight on the shooting stick. Bipod hunting sticks like the monopods come in different lengths and materials but they usually run about 62" max. A great bipod shooting stick is the Primos Bi Pod Trigger Stick. The Primos shooting stick has a strap for your gun for added security and it also has an optic mounting gear making this hunting stick great for sitting, kneeing, or standing hunting positions.

Tripod Shooting Sticks

Tripod hunting sticks are very popular in Africa and are commonly known as African shooting sticks. African shooting sticks gain their popularity because they are versatile and provide great support in a lot of different terrains. With the added support you gain from the tripod shooting stick you also gain extra weight making this hunting stick ideal for hunting that has less spot changes. Typically these sticks are carried by a person other than the hunter.

No matter what kind of shooting stick you choose you'll want to spend plenty of time testing it out before you hunt so that you can adjust your hunting technique.
