What are shots/ techniques that pros master which give them advantage over pub recreational players?
I would think pro will have at least following shots in their arsenal:
English/spin/screw- left, right, top and bottom spin/screw
Carom shot (cue ball hits object ball and bounces off to hit or pot another ball)
Kick safe (kick and safety)
Jump shot
They have all of the shots you mentioned above and more.
But what makes a pro so much better than a recreational player is experience and imagination.
I tell people, you need 2.5 things to be a good pool player.
1. Stroke - comes with practice
2. Eye - also comes with practice
.5 Imagination. This comes from being able to see and visualize shots, results, and potential that isnt readily seen. Being able to kick off a rail, off a ball, into another rail, and make your desired target. This is a trait that ISNT learned by practice, but is like mental toughness. Some people have it, and some dont.
My thinking is as a visual mathematician (in those psych tests that HR depts give). So, I am ingrained to see things using imagination well.
Anyone can master a 'shot' skill set with practice. But it is experience and the intagible that seperate the pro from the casual.
