A couple of questions for people who really know pool cues?
What is the better material for cues, graphite, Titanium, or maple? I wouldn't have thought maple, but that seems to be what all the higher-end cues are made of.
My son wants a good quality cue for his upcoming birthday or Christmas. I am a person of modest means, but I want to please my son. Can anyone recommend a brand that will work really well, but that doesn't require my taking out a second mortgage?
Opinions on which is better, hard or soft case, and why?
I will appreciate all serious answers. Thanks!
My son is 26, and an experienced player. He has a cue, but is wanting a better quality one.
okay i read through all of these and it sorta made me angry. in the sense that NONE of these people know what in the hell they are talking about.
you have to know something about cues in order to buy one. the best shaft on a cue is HARD ROCK CANADIAN MAPLE. the best joint would be a steel or phenolic joint.
solid wood cues are the only choice. you need to do some thinking about what kind of money you want to spend. because personally i have a 10,000 cue that has a bunch of ivory and gold inlays, but it doesn't improve my game. you want to look for the basics.
look for a GREAT non manufactured cue. my best bet for the cheapest price would be on eBay.
that's where i've boughten half of my cues for less then 25% of their actual value.
when you log into eBay look for these cue Manufaters
1. Richard Black (amazing cue maker)
2. Ernie Martinez (these will be expensive due to the little he made)
3. Paul Mottey
4. Joss West
5. Schon, (production cue but they all hit fantastic, this would be the cheapest call)
6. Jacoby
these are the good cue makers.
eBay is the only good call.
Good luck.
