need help with deciding on a McDermott pool cue?
I am looking at the McDermott pool cue M72A is this a good cue? thinking of a 21oz.
I plan on getting it at gameroomzplus.com and I get a free case and free shipping on my order with them.
Im using part of my tax return for this I would normally buy a cheaper pool cue but wanted to start with a good one.
MrDermott makes good cues, especially the higher end ones. I would, as another answerer recommended, make sure the weight is adjustable. You can order a full set of pins (weights) that screw into the butt of the cue. As a beginning player the 21oz. will be good for stability in stroke; however, studies show that an 18.5 to 19 oz. cue is optimum (lighter and there will not be enough mass to move the cue ball on the break, heavier and, though enough mass, physics slows down the possible stroke speed). Most pros play with about a 19 oz. cue for this reason. Also, you may want to have a lower deflection shaft fitted to your cue at some point (predator, ob1 or 2, e.g.). You may want to modify the weight due to a potential change in overall cue weight that a shaft change may affect. Final recommendation: I would have your stick tipped with a Sniper before having it shipped. This will be a bit more expensive and you may not know how much an edge it gives you having not shot with another tip, but it will miscue less often than any other tip you will use. (No charge for that last tip, but may be the most important piece of advice.)
