Kinds of Pool Cues
There are many kinds of cues being sold nowadays like billiard cues and pool cues. Billiard cues are more solid than pool cues since billiard balls are heavier than pool balls. The cue sticks differ from the wood that is used which determines the lightness and heaviness of the cue.
There are different types of pool cues we have regular pool cue, jump cue and break cues.
Regular Pool Cues are often made of solid wood that is tapered from butt end to the joint. The length of these cues is usually 57 or 58 inches and weighs an average of about 20 ounces. Some cues are one-piece cues where the width reduces uniformly from the end to the tip, two-piece cues are convenient to use by travelers. There are also three quarter two piece cues where the fold is not in the middle but three fourth distance away from the butt.
Break cues are specifically used for first shot or break shot and is usually phenolic-tipped. The tip is constructed from very hard leather to ensure full energy on the pool cue tip during a break shot. Although break cues are not considered necessary many expert players prefer this claiming they do better using this cue for breaking.
A jump cue is designed for making jump shots (one ball jumping over another). Compared to normal cue sticks, they are shorter and lighter but hard-tipped so that the strike will make the ball upward and since the cue's butt can be lifted up to an angle of about 45 degrees above.
