What does it mean when someone says that person is very black and white?

In terms of personality or attitude. I have a boss they describe as very black and white and she has little or no sense of humor. I'm afraid to open up to her because she does not seem like an approachable or open minded person.

The way I understand it is that its either one way or the other, I use to have a boss who people describe as very black and white also. And his answers about things were usually blunt and to the point, as if he had already had the answer predisposed in his mind and there was no other solution but that. Sometimes its a good thing, sometimes its not because it leaves no room for other possibilities. Its a leadership quality I believe, but it has its downfalls as well.
